People who are experienced in Commedia Dell'arte?

So me and my drama cl are doing commedia dell'arte projects and I was given the role of arlechino and from what I read he seems like i guess a sort of "gay" character. I know he's in love with columbina but still he cross dresses and all sorts of othe rthings event he way he walks but still I'm worried about it in case people thing i over do it and htink I might be gay which i mor ethan likely am. help please
