How important is indigenous heritage for Mexicans?

Interesting question. There are some that look down on the pure Indians still in Mexico. They consider themselves superior because of their Spanish heritage and blood line. Others realize their amazing history and embrace it. We have a rich though bloody history. Bloody even before the Europeans showed up, but still advanced in other ways.
